The light, compact, and portable unit feature a one-step operation to start the automatic cycle. Indicators show the status of the operation, and electronic detectors turn off power if there is insufficient water. 'TST' indicator strips (sold separately) provide independent verification that the correct combination of temperature, steam, and time has been met. The mechanical interlock system prevents the lid from being removed while the pressure remains in the chamber. Steam sterilization, or autoclaving, is the preferred method for eliminating the risk of cross-infection through contaminated instruments and the only one recommended throughout the world by healthcare professionals including the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control.
